Metropolitan Opera To Offer Free Virtual Shows This Week

As the numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to rise globally, various events are being canceled or postponed in an effort to contain the virus—from Broadway showsto Coachella.

But the show must go on for the Metropolitan Opera—online, at least.

In a press statement, the Met announced that from Monday, 16 March, they will be holding “Nightly Met Opera Streams”—a free series of encore performances to be streamed live in HD on the company’s official website during the coronavirus closure.

“We’d like to provide some grand opera solace to opera lovers in these extraordinarily difficult times,” said Met General Manager Peter Gelb in the statement. “Every night, we’ll be offering a different complete operatic gem from our collection of HD presentations from the past 14 years.”

The “Nightly Met Opera Streams” will begin promptly at 7:30 PM EDT every night on the Met’s homepage yy6810青苹果homepage of metopera.orgfor 20 hours, so people from all over the world can catch the iconic shows in their own time.
